The dark green, slender leaves are adorned with "Hairy Tips" (Mao Jian)—tiny silvery fibers that indicate the extreme tenderness of the spring buds.

Due to the high altitude and northern latitude of Xinyang, the leaves accumulate a high concentration of tea polyphenols and amino acids.
